Steering Committee Bike Tour!
On October 22nd, The Bicycle Plan Steering Committee participated in a bike tour that highlighted needs and opportunities. The tour included visits to representative locations featuring key issues raised by the committee and the community during the initial outreach process. The group toured potential bike parking locations, high collision intersections, freeway crossings and potential bikeway connections to downtown. The Steering Committee shared their thoughts on strategies and design options to improve the City’s bikeway network.

About the Plan
The City of San Mateo is developing a comprehensive citywide Bikeways Master Plan. The purpose of the plan is to develop a safe network of bicycle facilities providing access to transit, schools and shopping, ample bike parking and other support systems for bicycle commuting. The Plan will also include recommended education and encouragement programs to help San Mateo residents learn how to ride confidently and safely for a variety of daily and recreational bicycling.
The Bikeways Master Plan will also help San Mateo achieve its sustainability goals. The more San Mateans who choose to bike rather than drive, the more we can reduce the City's carbon footprint. This Bikeways Master Plan will directly support the goals and policies developed through the City's recent Sustainable Initiatives Plan (2007) and Draft General Plan (2009). These and other related documents can be found on the Documents page.
Development of the Plan will include extensive public input including a survey to evaluate needs and concerns, Public Works Commission meetings, Steering Committee meetings, and public workshops.
Please review the documents and other information on this website. We hope you participate in the process!
